Urat 100MW Trough CSP Project, a national demonstration concentrating solar power (CSP) project in Urat, Inner Mongolia, boasts the largest single-unit capacity and the longest thermal storage duration among China’s first batch of national solar thermal power demonstration projects. It was successfully connected to the grid for power generation for the first time on January 8, 2020.
Developed, invested in and constructed by Royal Tech CSP Limited, the project adopts core technologies and integrated solar field equipment from Royal Tech CSP, with 352 heat-collection loops deployed and a total heat-collection area of 1.15 million square meters. It has realized the first domestic substitution in China’s parabolic trough CSP power station sector, with performance indicators reaching international advanced levels. It has also become the first CSP project to achieve full-load power generation at the same latitude in China, laying a solid foundation for the large-scale localized development of parabolic trough CSP technology.
Since its commissioning, the project has maintained continuous, stable and high-load operation, with an annual net CSP power generation of approximately 330 million kWh. At the high latitude of 41.5° north, the operating efficiency of the domestic parabolic trough solar collectors has exceeded expectations, further consolidating the foundation for the large-scale localized development of parabolic trough CSP technology.
